Of Kalamazoo Passed away Friday morning, January 27, 2012. Marian was born January 1, 1924 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Jerry and Mary Vermeulen Gerlofs and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. She worked for over 11 years with the Kalamazoo Public Schools in Food Service. Marian was a member of Third Reformed Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed reading. On June 15, 1943 she was united in marriage to Joe DeVries, who preceded her in death on April 15, 2003. Marian was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald; son-in-law, Steven Little; and 2 sisters, Sarah Vermeulen and Sue Warren. Surviving are her children, Russell Linda DeVries, Ron Luann DeVries, Debra Little; 5 grandchildren, Robb and Bradley DeVries, Todd Kelsea DeVries, Amy Jordan Kramer, Jill Justin Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Maryann Woodard. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Oakview Terrace. There will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Marian's life will be held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday, January 31, at Third Reformed Church, 2345 N. 10th Street. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Area Christian Retirement Association.
