BEATTIE, Marian E. Kalamazoo Passed away Friday, August 24, 2007. She was born May 25, 1923 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John H. and Ethel M. Morris Beattie and had been a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She was a former member of Simpson United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and played the piano, and a current member of Westwood United Methodist Church. In 1945, Marian joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Loyalty Chapter #497, where she served as Past Matron and was a life member. She was also a member of Professional Secretaries International and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi. Marian began her career with the Sani-Wax Paper Company, retiring in 1968 as an Administrative Assistant. Following that, she was employed by the Upjohn Company for over 10 years. While at the Sani-Wax Paper Company, she became instrumental in changing the use of the building from factory to artist lofts. Marian is survived by her sister, Martha B. Reed of Kalamazoo. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 8, 2007 in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Pastor Wayne Price, officiating. Those desiring to make a lasting gift in Marian?s name may direct their gifts to the Westwood United Methodist Church or Loyalty Chapter, #497, OES.
