KELLMAN Earl, Margaret Elizabeth Of Portage Passed away Tuesday January 16, 2007. Margaret Elizabeth Earl was born on a farm in Cooper, Michigan on February 6, 1913, the youngest child of Carrie Hollowell and George Earl. She had two sisters, Louise Earl Oliver and Edna Earl. After her mother?s death in 1925 her father died in 1917 she lived with Julia and Henry Moomey of Plainwell and Cyrus and Lydia Walker of Cooper during the summer and Otis and Lara Earl and their daughter Virginia of Kalamazoo during the school year until her graduation from Western Michigan University with a degree in elementary education. Margaret Earl married John Kellman on October 22, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple travel extensively during the early years of their marriage, finally settling in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1947 where they raised two daughters. Mrs. Kellman taught first in Michigan and then in the Elmhurst, Illinois public schools, retiring from Madison School in Elmhurst after thirty years as a first and third grade teacher. She was an active church member throughout her life most recently of Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She loved walks in the woods and travel, watching and feeding birds, gardening and flowers, needlepoint and cats. Surviving are her two daughters, Julia Kellman of Urbana, Illinois and Jane Kellman of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and by her two sisters, Louise and Edna. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 3 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 7028 Oakland Drive, Portage, MI 49024. A private burial will take place in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials in Margaret?s memory may be directed to the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, or Alzheimer?s Association.
