HARGIE, Mrs. Margaret Viola Tiefenthal
Kalamazoo, MI Died Monday morning March 15, 2010. She was born June 14, 1911 Flag Day in Bloomingdale, Michigan. She was the daughter of Earl and Amber Tiefenthal who preceded her in death. Margaret graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1930 and received her teaching certificate from Western State Teachers College in 1932. She later earned her BA in 1936. In 1938-she married Robert Hargie who preceded her in death in 1966. Margaret taught kindergarten and first grade at Parchment Elementary and later at Westwood Elementary schools. She retired in 1976. Margaret was a life member of the Corinthian Chapter 123 of the Order of the Eastern Star, over 25 year member of the Ladies Library Association, life member of the WMU Alumni, and member of the First Presbyterian Church. Margaret loved to paint watercolors and especially enjoyed her cabin at Harper Lake near Irons.
Margaret is survived by a step brother James Tiefenthal of Rochester, New York, brother-in-law, Richard Beverly Hargie of Portage, sister-in-law, Frances Hargie of Clinton Township, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Diver, brother Harlan Tiefenthal, and step mother Hazel Tiefenthal. Services will be held 11 o'clock Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South St. Visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Private interment will be in Mt. Home Cemetery.
