Mabel M. Lapekas

LAPEKAS, Mrs. Mabel M. Kalamazoo, MI Died Saturday evening November 25, 2006. Mabel was born June 16, 1916 in Decatur, Michigan a daughter of Arthur and Florence Wormington Lake. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1939, coming from Decatur, MI. Upon graduation from Decatur High School and Western Michigan Teachers College, she taught in the one room Celery Center School near Decatur. She and her husband owned and operated Lapekas Stone Co. and Luke?s Truck Service for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lucas ?Luke? Lapekas on July 11, 2000; a son, Larry W. Lapekas on December 6, 2000; 3 brothers, Harold, Allan, and Walter Lake; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Lake; and a step brother, Raymond Bissett. She is survived by a son, Allan Marilyn Lapekas of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Sharry Lapekas of St. Petersburg, FL; 5 grandchildren, Norman Candace Lapekas, Kimberly Adam Rohr, Robert Cathy Lapekas, Diane Craig Lewis, and David Marissa Lapekas; 2 great-grandchildren, Austin Rohr and Jacob Lapekas; 2 brothers-in-law, Andrew JoAnn Lapekas and Carl Hazel Lapekas; a step brother, Orville Adele Bissett of Naples, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o?clock Saturday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday.
