ROBERTS, Mr. Lyle M. Portage, MI Died Saturday morning November 4, 2006. Lyle was born November 29, 1922 in Portage, Michigan a son of Lyle and Betty Peck Roberts. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and owned and operated Roberts Steel Erectors for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Iron Workers Local #340 where he served as recording secretary; and the U.S. Auto Club. He was also inducted into the Michigan Motor Sport Hall of Fame and the City of Anderson, Indiana Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lyle Roberts; a sister, Hollis; and a brother, Larry. In 1941, he was united in marriage to MaryLou Hackenburg Roberts who survives. Also surviving, 5 children, Karen Mullen of Lansing, Doug Vicky Roberts of Portage, Darryl Diane Roberts of Seattle, WA, Dennis Roberts of Kalamazoo, and Debbie Schabes of Bradenton, FL; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Wayne Shepard of Portage; 3 brothers, Lewis Jackie Roberts and Charles Judy Roberts all of Portage and David Leslie Roberts of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 11 o?clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday. Interment will be in Schoolcraft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Upjohn Nursing Home or the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Program.
