NORWOOD, Lyal G.
of Kalamazoo Lyal was born June 10, 1915, in St. Joseph County, MI, the son of Frederick and Henrietta Knuth Norwood and went to be with his Lord on October 6, 2011, in Kalamazoo, MI. From 1941-47, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a resident of the Kalamazoo area since 1958. Lyal was a longtime member of his beloved Valley View Bible Church, where he had served as Sunday School superintendent for many years. Throughout the years he had been employed as a factory worker but also had worked many years as a farmer. On June 15, 1934, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth B. Titus Norwood, who preceded him in death on January 21, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings, Marvel, Iva, Vivian, Delane Carl, Duane, Albert, Delora and Elmer. Surviving are six children, Kathryn Clayton of Kalamazoo, Betty Lincoln of Greenville, MI, Lyal "Skip" Diana Norwood of Sparta, MI, Janet Kurt Helgerson of Richland, Larry Rose Norwood of Kalamazoo, MI and Kathleen William Pegg of Onekama , MI; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9th from 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, where a celebration of Lyal's life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 10th . Interment will follow in North Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Lyal's memory be directed to Valley View Bible Church.
