Portage Passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010. He was born February 7, 1922 in Havana, Cuba to Ernesto Fernandez and Elvira Raventos. On December 15, 1946, he was married to Regina Carmen Hidalgo. They emigrated to the United States in April of 1964 and started a new life in Michigan, living in Battle Creek and Lansing. After retiring from GM/Oldsmobile Division, they moved to Portage in 1987. Luis is survived by his wife, Regina of Portage; son, Louie Mary Margaret Fernandez of Climax; daughter, Regina Rob Richardson of Vicksburg; a brother, Raul Fernandez of Jacksonville FL; grandchildren, Chad Fernandez, Jeffrey Fernandez, Alisha Matt Recher, Andrea Brian Elliot, Rita Richardson Goldberg Marc, Roy, Randy and Robbie Richardson; four great granddaughters and a 5th great grandchild due this September; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernesto, Fernando, Armando and Victor. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Tendercare of Portage for the care given to Luis during his stay. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Msgr. Michael Hazard officiating. Interment will follow in the deDie-Richardson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 AM.
