VAN STREAIN, Lt. Terry Of Portage Beloved husband of Carol passed away suddenly Friday evening October 12, 2007 at his residence. Terry was born February 9, 1953 in Kalamazoo, the son of Robert and Helen Kean VanStreain and has been a lifelong area resident. For three years he served in the U.S. Army, attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, N.C. Terry was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, KVCC Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. For 32 years he had served with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department in many capacities, currently as a Lieutenant with the Criminal Investigation Division. Terry?s zest for life was evident with the way he committed himself completely to every relationship or project he endeavored. He enjoyed skydiving, bow hunting and fishing. Terry cherished his time spent with his family and his brotherhood with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department.
On November 10, 1972, Terry was united in marriage to the former Carol Sagert, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Andrea Eric Riddle of Kalamazoo; his son, Jeremy VanStreain Cassandra Lang of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Jackson, Gabriella and Delaney Riddle; his mother, Helen VanStreain of Parchment; his sister and brothers, Sarah Wayne Rantz, Robert VanStreain, Jr., Kenneth Ronelle VanStreain and Gary Mary VanStreain; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Phil Overholt; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. His father, Robert VanStreain, of Kalamazoo, preceded Terry in death. Visitation for Terry will be held Tuesday, October 16, from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. 343-1508 Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 17, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 South 11th Street, Oshtemo, followed by a service to celebrate Terry?s life, with Pastor Danny Janes officiating. Following services, burial will be held with full military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
