Of Portage, MI Passed away at his home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the age of 93. He was born in Hudson, IN on May 30, 1919, the son of the late William and Estella Crowell Burchard. He worked in maintenance for Kalamazoo Public Schools for 27 years. He also worked as a carpenter and certified welder. He was a member of Flowerfield Baptist Church in Marcellus, where he taught Sunday School and assisted in several maintenance and construction activities. He was married to Edith M. Jones on July 21, 1956 in Benton Harbor; she preceded him in death on August 5, 2010. He is survived by his six children, Lola Seekman of Grand Rapids, MN, Larry Sherry Laxton of Manton, MI, Lois Mark Reynolds of Plymouth, IN, Valerie David Ward of Portage, Cherie Moore of Portage and James Burchard; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, William LeRoy Burchard and his daughter, Tammy Lynn Burchard; three brothers and one sister. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013. Pastor Marvin Followell will officiate with military burial in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
