BALLETT, Lousina C. "Sina" DeLong
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 2013 at her residence. Sina was born October 14, 1920 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Clarence and Lena Verburg Stoops. She was the youngest of nine children. In 1939 she was united in marriage to James Ballett who preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Dr. Robert DeLong; a son, Charles; brothers and sister, Webb, Neil, Ed, Clarence, Art, Hank, Larry and Carol. She owned a small "mom and pop" grocery store on the corner of John and Lake St. Later she owned and operated the Blossom Shoppe for over 30 years. Sina loved her family and was well known in Kalamazoo. She enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Tigers; and was a great cook and baker who loved having get togethers. Everybody always came to Sina's house. She loved spending time at her cabin in Kaleva; and any chance to go on an adventure she took it. She also enjoyed her time spent in South Haven which brought her a great deal of pleasure. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Bethany Reformed Church. Sina is survived by her children, Roy LaVonne Ballett, Bonnie Vose, Nancy Ian Frost; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 step-daughters, Pam and Rhonda; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at the Bethany Reformed Church, 1833 S. Burdick, with Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street and Friday from 10-11 at the church. Interment will be in Genesse Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Heartland Hospice, Bethany Reformed Church or the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
