Lori A. VanderLugt

Lori Ann VanderLugt, age 46 of Kalamazoo, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice on September 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 4, 1978, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Garret and Marie (Hofstra) VanderLugt. Lori was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, but she never let it stop her from living a full and happy life. She loved Jesus and shared that joy with all she met. Lori was a long-time member of 3rd Christian Reformed Church. 

She attended Parkwood-Upjohn Elementary, South Middle School, and was a 1998 graduate from Loy-Norrix High School. After graduation, she participated in the Young Adult Program and in later years had fun bowling with her Alcott Center friends. 

She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed memorable road trips to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, and San Diego. She loved playing card games, iPad games, crafting, making hats and potholders on her loom, watching Hallmark and sci-fi movies, and going to her favorite restaurant La Cantina. Lori will be remembered for her loving spirit, amazing smile, and long, braided hair. If you met her once, you never forgot her.

She is survived by her parents, Garret and Marie VanderLugt, who cared for her all her life in their home; her sister, Sara, and brother-in-law Milo Fowler; and extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gerrit and Pearl VanderLugt and John and Henrietta Hofstra. 

Friends may visit with her family on Wednesday, September 25th, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Location, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, where her funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
