Lois Jane Sisson

Sisson, Lois Jane Hooper of Traverse City
formerly of Kalamazoo Lois passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the age of 96 years. She was the daughter of the late James and Pearl Kendall Hooper, born in Grand Rapids on August 26, 1916. She was married on July 12, 1940 to the late Walker Sisson, who preceded her in death in 1967. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, and served as a volunteer for many years with the kitchen and reception committees. She also volunteered for many years helping with Meals on Wheels of Kalamazoo. Lois also researched her family history which lead to publishing several books about Hooper history. Surviving are her children Joan Richard Cooper of Traverse City, Walker Sisson Jr. of Kalamazoo, Emily Richard Earle of Traverse City; her grandchildren Jennifer Mark Van Houten of Kalamazoo, Andrea Sisson of Grand Rapids, Matt Tara Cooper of Traverse City, Karen Mike Echery of Boulder, CO., Laura Earle of Traverse City, and Thomas Earle of Traverse City, great-grandchildren Logan, Maia, Olivia, Asher, Emma, Andrew and Elijah; and her sister Eleanor William Hendershot of Ann Arbor. Lois's sister Louise Truax and brothers Kendall Hooper and James Hooper had preceded her in death. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, West Side Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral service will follow at noon. Pastor Virginia Heller of the Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church will officiate with burial following at the Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Kalamazoo.
