Lois Elaine Hirn

HIRN, LOIS ELAINE
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Lois Elaine Heidanus Hirn, age 83 of Kalamazoo, passed away on September 8, 2012 at Oakview Terrace. Lois was born on April 27, 1929, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Peter and Edna Heidanus. She attended Kalamazoo Public Schools for kindergarten through 12th grade and continued her education at both Hope College and Western Michigan College of Education. Lois obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1951, and for the next 40 years, Lois taught faithfully in several Michigan schools, devoting the last nearly 25 years of her career to Portage school systems, retiring from Amberly Elementary in 1991. Lois is survived by her son, Bryan Sophia Hirn; her daughter, Sara Gary Krebill; her four grandchildren, Samuel J. Hirn, Abigail J. Hirn, Cameron W. Krebill, and Connor M. Krebill; her lifelong friend Phyllis Gemberling Mills; her friend Joyce Younker; gals Friday, Sharon Musselman and Sally VanderBent; and several other friends and cousins. Lois is predeceased by her mother and father; her sister, Eunice J. Heidanus VanderRoest; and her brother-in-law, Henry C. VanderRoest. The family will receive friends from 11am - 12noon on Saturday, September 22nd at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 1747 W. Milham Ave. where a memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 12:00 Noon Saturday, September 22nd with Pastor Paul Nuechterlein officiating. Memorials in Lois' memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
