HERDER, Lois M.
Of Kalamazoo Her Lord and Savior called her home on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in Montgomery, Alabama. Lois was born December 24, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Simon and Alice Klaver Miersma. She was a member of the Covenant United Reformed Church and was active with the Crossroads Bible Institute. The most important part of Lois' life was her love for her Lord, her family and her church. On August 25, 1949, Lois was united in marriage to Vernon P. Herder who survives. Also surviving are her children, Jim Lois Herder of Kalamazoo, Mike Sue Herder of Kalamazoo, Joy Dean Smelker of Plainwell, Dave Julie Herder of Kalamazoo, Doug Cheryl Herder of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Andy Kara Herder, Bryan Emily Herder, Scott Herder, Jeff Tara Herder, Greg Herder and fiancée Bethany Bosker, Mark Herder, Joel Herder, Tim Herder, Scott Smelker, Pam Greg Brewington, Dan Amanda Herder, Jason Herder, Alan Herder, Kristen Herder, Stephanie Herder and Nate Herder; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Aubrey, Logan, Jackson, Nicholas, Ryan, Cody, Travis and Garrett; siblings, Betty Clarence Schippers, Cal Marguerite Miersma, Ruth Fred Hanko; in-laws, Bob Norma Herder, Paul Maureen Herder and by several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dorothy Roy Solomon, Dan Mary Miersma; in-laws, Nathan Norma Herder; and by a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday at the Covenant United Reformed Church 3724 Lovers Lane with Rev. Wybren Oord officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials in Lois' memory may be directed to the Covenant United Reformed Church, the Crossroads Bible Institute, the Kalamazoo Christian School Association, or the Reformed Heritage Christian School.
