Sterling Weatherwax of Climax, Michigan, passed away early Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, at home. He was born February 15, 1955, at Borgess Hospital, the third son of the late Ian and Helen (Laird) Weatherwax; brother of James Weatherwax and Glenn Weatherwax.
A lifelong Kalamazoo County resident, Sterling grew up in Milwood, and then Portage, where he graduated from Portage Central High School in 1973. During the fall of 1974, he met Patricia Bos, from Parchment, at the much enjoyed Light Factory on Kilgore Road. They were married on May 19, 1978, recently celebrating 46 years of marriage and approaching 50 years of life shared together. They were delighted to welcome daughters Katie Michele in 1983, and Holly Renee in 1985, and grandson Jude Isaac in 2008.
Sterling, Ster, Wax, Waxman, had a terrific group of friends and co-workers who enjoyed his humor, wit, and candor. He liked fast, cool, classic cars, NHRA drag racing, and golf. He rooted for the University of Michigan, especially Wolverines football. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, but often was depreciative of their performance.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Pat, daughter, Katie, son-in-love, Christopher Best, and grandson, Jude, along with lots of extended family and friends.
The Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Thanksgiving for the Life of Sterling Weatherwax will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 21st, at the Richland First Presbyterian Church, located at 8047 Church Street in Richland, Michigan, with Rev. Dr. Mark Jennings officiating. An informal reception will follow in the church’s Gull Prairie Room. Private committal will be held at a later date. Friends and family are welcome to visit at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 205 E Maple St, Climax, MI 49034, on Friday, July 19th, from 2 pm to 4pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
