BIRD, Lloyd J.
Of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Friday, May 8, 2009. Lloyd was born June 12, 1937, in Kalamazoo, the son of Lloyed Jay and Marjorie Helen Harrington Bird. He was a lifelong area resident who had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Germany. For over 50 years he worked as a machinist with Shakespeare, American Tool, owner of Kalamazoo Tool Company, and retired from Beckan Company. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. On June 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Joyce C. Stevens who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Burton Tammy Bird of Portage, Lloyd J. Lori Bird, II of Kalamazoo and Theresa Michael Campbell of Dowling; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Rice of Plainwell; sister-in-law, Gladys Carl Hizer; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Viva Bird and Naomi Andrews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 421 Monroe St. with Father Ken Schmidt presiding. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
