MATTHEWS, Linda K. Of Portage Linda passed away at her home on Friday, October 21, 2011. She was born December 30, 1943 in Plainwell, the daughter of William F. and Betty D. Cooper Farnum and was a lifelong resident of the area. Linda was a graduate of Allegan High School. She was a self-employed cosmetologist who owned and operated Linda's Hair Creations in Portage, MI for the past 33 years. She had previously worked for Cherina's Beauty Boutique, Mr. & Mrs. Coffiers and the Beauty Bar. She was a member of the National Cosmetology Association, served as the Membership Chairman of the Kalamazoo Cosmetology Association, a former member of the Red Hat Society, loved gardening and was most proud of being a Grandma. On October 2, 1967, she married Scott P. Matthews III, who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Cynthia Bill Farran of Vicksburg; step-children, Kathy Darryl Fraaza, Julia Daniel Doran and Scott P. Matthews IV; grandchildren, Jamal and Malik Farran, Kristin Matt Covault, David Cammy Fraaza, Kyle Fraaza, Nicole and Sarah Doran; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Clarence J. Wesseling, and her sister, Diane Peters. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 26th from 12 ? 1 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Following the visitation a memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the charity of one's choice.
