NEHRING, Lillian
Of Kalamazoo, MI Died February 21, 2010 at the age of 91. Lillian was born on September 23, 1918 to Eckhart and Wilhelmina Sill Proefrock. She attended Lakeview school in Battle Creek, Michigan and Reed City High School in Reed City, Michigan. Lillian was a graduate of Hastings High School and the Davenport Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a young woman, Lillian was employed by the Bureau of Social Aid and the Farm Security Administration. She then began her long career with the Internal Revenue Service. Lillian married the love of her life, Eldon Al Nehring, in 1946 and took up residence in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. They had a son, Ronald, of Salt Lake City, Utah who survives her. Al passed away in 1948. Lillian returned to her career with the IRS in Kalamazoo. During her career with the Department of the Treasury, Lillian received many awards for her competence, diligence and creativity. On her retirement, she received the Albert Gallatin Award, Treasury's highest honor for career service. For more than 60 years, Lillian spent a part of each summer in Arcadia, Michigan at Camp Arcadia, operated by the Lutheran Camp Association. The beauty God's creation is nowhere more dramatically displayed than when the summer sun floods the lakes and forests of Northern Michigan. Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo where she taught Sunday school and was active in Mary-Martha LWML. Lillian was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister, Cathleen, and brother, Donald. Also surviving are her sister, Dorothy David Johnston of Kalamazoo, three grandchildren, Lincoln Nehring of Salt Lake City, Jessica Nehring of Bend Oregon and Kyle Nehring of Fort Collins, Colorado. Lillian's life was enriched by providing homes to Chinese students including Angela Wang of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dr. Yong Wei and her husband, Kr.Zhermin Liang of Branchburg, NJ and Gu huo-Ying of Tianjin, China. A service of Christian burial will be held 11 am on Friday, February 26 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd. with Pastor Larry Brelje and Pastor Louis Grother officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 am at the church. Graveside services will be at 2 pm on Saturday, February 27 in Estabrooks Cemetery in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lillian's memory be made to Concordia Theological Seminary, 6600 N. Clinton St., Ft. Wayne, Indiana 46897.
