Kalamazoo Passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Lila was born June 28, 1920 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Gerald and Myrtle Rowe Huggins and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. She loved to spend time with and dote on her family and friends, even more so when she could also cook for them. Lila also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. On May 4, 1946, she married Harry P. Nichols, who preceded her in death on November 15, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine Jim Ford. Lila is survived by her sons, Paul G. Karen Nichols of Kalamazoo and Dennis J. Nichols of Seattle, WA; a daughter-in-law, Nila Nichols; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey Pam Nichols, Denise Gary Blanchard and Blake Nichols; 4 great grandchildren, Justin, Jeffrey, Derek and Josh; nieces and nephews; her dear friends, Marsha Jim Jones and Damon Michelle Raker; and her neighbors. The family would also like to thank Pam and Terrie, Lila's hospice caregivers for the excellent and loving care given over 14 months, allowing her to remain in her own home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Pastor Ken Woodhams officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
