DUNFIELD, LeRoy D. ?Whitey?
Of Kalamazoo Passed away December 24, 2007 at Bronson Hospital. Whitey was born October 17, 1929 in Otsego, MI, the son of Ivan and Frances Kitzmiller Dunfield and was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 31 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Whitey served as a volunteer fireman for 41 years, 7 years at the Eastwood Fire Department and 34 years as Assistant Chief of the Oshtemo Township Fire Department. He also served as a member of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff?s Department Mounted Division and the Kalamazoo County Marine Division. Whitey was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn in 1999 and by a sister Sue Oliver and a brother Donald Dunfield. On April 24, 2004, he was married to the former Pamela Brindley, who survives. Also surviving are children, David Linda Dunfield of Portage, Ron Nancy Dunfield of Jackson and Martin Dunfield of Florida; stepchildren, Marianne Brindley and Susanne Boley, both of Kalamazoo, Thomas James Brindley of Lawton and Chad Guess of Galesburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ray Dunfield of Delton, Hiram Dunfield, Robert Beth Dunfield, Kay Dunfield and Bonnie Stacy, all of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. Jack Roomsburg officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Whitey?s memory be made to the Eastwood Little League or the charity of your choice.
