Leonard “Bud” Overbey, 93 of Schoolcraft, passed away peacefully at Northwoods Village Assisted Living on September 26, 2024. He was born on September 20, 1931, in Salem, IN, to Robert and Myrtle (Stevens) Overbey.

Bud proudly served in the United States Air Force in the Continental Air Command. He worked on heavy equipment and was proud to take home 1st place in the Air Force’s Vehicle Rodeo in Newfoundland in 1955. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal before his discharge.

During his service, Bud met and married Marjorie “Marj” Voss in 1954. They were blessed with nearly 70 years of marriage.

Bud was a devoted truck driver for several national logistics companies and enjoyed every mile. He was twice inducted into the Million Mile Club by Mack, a true testament to his love and devotion to transportation. He retired from ANR Chicagoland in the early 1990s, but he never stopped driving

Bud enjoyed time spent living on the lake and his country home. He loved his cowboy boots and visiting local coffee shops, he enjoyed having Saturday morning coffee with his fellow truckers. He had the gift of being a great handyman, being able to fix just about anything and if he didn’t know how to fix something then he was determined to learn how.

He took his family and travel trailer to the West Coast for a few weeks at a time. They visited every National Park along the way and made memorable trips to Bud’s favorite state Colorado and to visit family in Salt Lake City and Seattle.

Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was always on the go but made sure to slow down to be present for his family.

Bud is survived by his wife Marj, children Ben (Janis Overbey, and Brenda (Jeff) Doroh; grandchildren Nathan (Heather) Overbey, Brett (Kristin) Overbey, Kristin (Collin) Harrington, Dustin (Heather) Doroh, Corey (Kaleigh) Doroh, Troy (Emma) Doroh; and great grandchildren Micayla, Regan, Olivia, Silas, Emmett, and Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Myrtle.

Bud will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
