GOULD, Lena Boers
Kalamazoo Mrs. Gould passed away Thursday morning, December 13, 2007 at Upjohn Nursing Home. She was born July 10, 1910 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Martha Geising Boers. Lena was employed by the Kalamazoo Gazette for 24 years until her retirement in 1952. She was a member of Milwood United Methodist Church. On August 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Varner M. Gould, who preceded her in death on September 6, 1968. Also preceding her in death are her daughter, Mary Lou Slack on May 17, 2001; 4 brothers, Peter, Rynard, Cornelius, and Clarence Boers; and 2 sisters, Winifred Turner, and Ruth Newkirk. Surviving are son-in-law, William Slack of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Heidi Paul Chamness of Holland, Kathy Stephen Neeley of Kalamazoo, and Matthew Slack of Holland; 3 great-grandchildren, Adam Chamness, and Maxwell and Logan Neeley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Gould will be at 11:00 AM on Monday tomorrow at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage Road, with Rev. Martin Culver officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Milwood United Methodist Church or West Michigan Cancer Center.
