BLACK, Leldon R. ?Blackie? Portage Mr. Black passed away early Tuesday morning, April 17, 2007 at his home. He was born January 10, 1932 in Decatur, Alabama the son of Robert and Sally Massey Black. Leldon was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Allied Paper Co. for 38 years until his retirement in 1989. On October 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty Watson in Iuka, Mississippi. Leldon was a member of Lake Center Bible Church and enjoyed square-dancing. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty Black; three sons, Bruce Black of Bangor, Mike Cathy Black of Ridgeland, Mississippi, and Charles fiancée Connie Rosewarne Black of Portage; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, Robert Black and Sally James, one brother and one sister. Funeral services for Mr. Black will be at 2:00 PM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue, with Pastor Greg Stewart officiating. Entombment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Southern Care Hospice or American Cancer Society.
