SCHWENK, Lee G. Portage Passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011. Lee was born April 6, 1925 in Leonidas, MI the only son of Jacob and Elva Krupp Schwenk. He graduated from Colon High School in 1943, Western Michigan University in 1949, and took classes at Indiana University. During WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 3 years, helping map Korea. Lee worked for Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan for 40 years, starting as a teller and working his way up to Executive Vice-President, retiring in 1991. He loved gardening, golfing and traveling and volunteered for the Lions Club, SCORE and 4-H programs. On December 26, 1948, he married Katherine Joanna Mumby, who survives. Lee is also survived by their children, Thomas Jane Schwenk, Steve Schwenk and Janet Bill Chambers; grandchildren, Sarah Steve, Andrew, Jason Stacy, Adam Lindsey, Emily, Erin and Abby; 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 3 sisters, Gladys, Florence and Evelyn. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Rev. Kevin Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Central Portage Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Second Reformed Church or the Kalamazoo Downtown Lions Club.
