SPITTERS, Lawrence ?Bud?
of Southwest Ranches, FL
formerly of Kalamazoo Went home to be with his Lord, Thursday evening June 21, 2007. Bud was born June 14, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of Lawrence and Lena Van Werden Spitters. During WW II he served in the U.S. Air Force. A former business owner in Kalamazoo, he retired from LSI Kala Craft in 1986, where he was plant manager. Bud was a member of Florida Bible Church; a former member of Third Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and Southridge Reformed Church in Portage. Bud and Evelyn devoted their retirement years to the service of others. After moving to Lakeland, FL, in 1991, they traveled in their motor home with the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program, volunteering across the country. Later they lived on-site at Green Isle Children's Ranch where Bud managed the construction of several new buildings and helped with the grounds and maintenance while Evelyn worked in food service and in the office. They also worked with the children as resident "grandparents" and Bud taught a shop class for the boys. Finally, in 2001 they moved to South FL to be closer to family. On June 5, 1942, Bud was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Zudweg who preceded him in death on August 16, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry Spitters in 1984 and by a brother, Robert Spitters. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Spitters of Kalamazoo, Linda Michael Sirola of Southwest Ranches, FL; 3 grandchildren, Chad Spitters Rhonda, Heath Janice and Todd Quackenbush; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother Frank Elaine Spitters; a sister-in-law, Virginia Spitters; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday June 28 from 12 to 1 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St., where a Remembrance Service for both Evelyn and Bud will be held beginning at 1:00 pm with Rev.
