Passed away August 26, 2007 at Mercy Pavilion of Battle Creek. Laura was born October 12, 1910 in Cadillac, MI, the daughter of George and Bessie Rock and had lived most of her life in the Kalamazoo and Paw Paw areas. She earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Western Michigan University. Laura taught for 34 years and retired from teaching after 22 years at the Galesburg Elementary School. She enjoyed her vegetable garden, crocheting afghans for her family and fishing, but most of all loved being with her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Nelson in 1949 and by a newborn son Robert Allen Williams, a son-in-law Tom Boyd, by 2 brothers, Clyde and Claud and a sister Thelma. Surviving are 2 daughters, Eileen Bill Bender of Augusta and Joyce Glen Cary of Battle Creek; 5 grandchildren, Tom Nancy Boyd, Scott Louann Boyd, Michele David Schinderle, Nelson Stephanie Cary and Laurann Bill Frey; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 o?clock Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. Shan Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo. Friends may meet the family Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Laura?s memory may be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or the American Diabetes Association.
