WRIGHT, LARRY JAY
of Galesburg Passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2007 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 20, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN to Roger and Thelma Wright. They lived on the family farm in Newport, IN, moving to Grand Rapids, MI when Larry was a young boy. He graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School in 1952 and soon went to work for Western Electric Co. Larry married Ruth Anderson on March 19, 1955. He was transferred to Kalamazoo in 1965 and built a home in the Galesburg area in 1972. His community was important to him and served as a 4-H Leader, president of the Leaders Council, a member of the Galesburg Lions and Galesburg Rotary, appointed to the Kalamazoo Co. Road Commission for two terms and served on the Galesburg Planning Commission. Larry retired after 32 years of service with Western Electric and began a new career in real estate, he was especially fond of helping first time home buyers. He and Ruth opened The Wright Real Estate Co. in Galesburg operating it for several years. Larry loved morning coffee with his friends, laughter, a good joke, working the land at his home, traveling, watching early morning stars, and working on projects at his children?s homes. Larry loved people and would strike up a conversation with everyone he met. He especially loved his family and leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Ruth, his children Larry Jr. Barb, Susan, and Judith; grandchildren, Larry III Elizabeth, William Susan, Jennifer, David and John; great-grandchildren, Larry IV and Landon and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and beloved sisters, Rita Jean and Jo Ann. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 6 PM at the Langeland Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be held at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 22 S. Church St., Galesburg, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Rev. Whitney Brown officiating.
