VESTAL, Larry N.
Of Portage Passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2010. Larry was born January 19, 1941 in Kalamazoo the son Fred and Mae Field Vestal and had been a life long resident in the Kalamazoo area. Larry was a man of many talents, working several different jobs during his life time. He started working at Wayside and King's Inn; was manager of the Knollwood Tavern; and retired from Allied Paper Company. He later enjoyed working at the States Golf Club for several years. Larry was an avid reader of the sports section of the paper. He loved all sports, and was an avid fan of NASCAR. He also played in and managed the KIT fastpitch softball tournament. On March 30, 1992 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Barbara, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry Jr. Shel Vestal, Debbie David Crosby, Marybeth Vestal and Tom Manion, Cheryl Bill Sweet, Craig Michelle Williams; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister and brother, Carol Jim Fillmore, Bob Maggie Vestal; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at 12:00 o'clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Friends may meet the family on Monday from 11:00-12:00 prior to the service. Cremation has taken place and private family interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the SPCA or the Myeloma Institute of Research and Therapy.
