JOHNSON, Larry O.
of Parchment Passed away peacefully on May 7, 2010 surrounded by family. He was born January 6, 1934 in Rapid City, South Dakota to the late Robert and Julia Hoyt Johnson. Larry was united in marriage on June 27, 1959 to Joan Ann Lanahan, who survives. Larry was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Lion's Club, Knights of Columbus and the Senior Bowling Tournaments. He was also proud to be active with the Big Brother's program. He was an active participant in the sports of bowling, golf and tennis. Larry graduated from Western Michigan University in 1956 with a BA in Business Administration. He worked for General Motors for 25 years, the latter years as supervisor. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until honorably discharged in 1958. He has 3 children, Kevin Leslie Johnson of Kohler, Wisconsin, Cathy Chuck Mureika of Kalamazoo, and Laura Johnson also of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Colin, Erin, Casey and Hannah; brothers, Robert Evelyn Johnson, Marvin Patricia Johnson and Lyle Marge Johnson; 4 sisters, Bess Haddrill, Lila Harold Latham, Bonnie Claud McMillen and Sylvia Robert Parmelee; sister-in-law, Patricia Calkins; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Larry in death was a brother, LaVerne Betty Johnson in 2009. Family will greet friends on Monday from 1-3 and 5-7:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Services will take place Tuesday, 11:00 o'clock, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G Ave. At his request, cremation will follow services. Memorials may be directed to the Southern Care Hospice, Upjohn Community Care Center or a charity of one's choice.
