Age 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, September 9, 2024. Lance was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on November 6, 1946, the son of the late John and Mildred (Peterson) DeYoung. As a young boy, Lance enjoyed helping and spending time at his family’s business, DeYoung Coffee and Nuts, located in downtown Kalamazoo. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and served his country honorably in the United States Army. Lance worked for many years at Shakespeare Company before their closure. He had a strong faith and loved Jesus. Lance enjoyed reading, drawing, taking pictures and spending time with his family. He was gifted in many ways and was a skilled woodworker. He also enjoyed collecting things of all types, feeding animals, and loved riding his bicycle. Lance’s family was always at the center of his life. He is survived by his children, Christine (Justin) Crawford, Philip (Lisa) DeYoung and Joseph (Jennifer) DeYoung; grandchildren, Jessica, Breanna, and Noah Crawford, Philip “PJ”, Carson, Emma, Joseph “J”, Eli, Ava, Sawyer and Levi DeYoung; great-grandchildren, Elayena and Elijah Ellis; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen and Paulette DeYoung; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lance was preceded in death by his brothers, Jon and Richard DeYoung, and sister, Janice DeYoung. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
