Lammert "Ted" VanDuinen, 80, of Kalamazoo, passed away December 20, 2018. He was born on March 12, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Lammert and Blanche VanDuinen. Ted was a memorable man—he always walked out of a room with new friends. He will be remembered for his huge heart. He loved his family and shared a special connection with his wife, Joyce. He was always there to help when he was needed. He was always positive and was known to be a jokester; his sarcasm is a trait many recall well. He was a hardworking man and a Jack of All Trades, well known for his talents in woodworking. He loved playing golf and watching sports, especially the University of Michigan Wolverines football and the Detroit Pistons. He also enjoyed playing cards, particularly Cribbage, and loved his last minute trips he took with the love of his life, Joyce. He was preceded in death by his son, Jody VanDuinen. Ted leaves behind his best friend, soul mate, and loving wife, Joyce (Adams) VanDuinen; children, Randy (Lynn) VanDuinen, Ted (Carol) VanDuinen, Dan (Lori) VanDuinen, Tracy (Michelle) VanDuinen, Jamie (Maggie) VanDuinen, Corey (Corina) VanDuinen, Jamie L. Whitmore, and Glenn (Jamie) Whitmore; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce (Hart) Swanson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29, at 11am at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where the family will receive friends Friday, December 28, from 5-8pm and Saturday, from 10-11am before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Please visit Ted's personalized guestbook at www.langelands.com.
