AMES, Mr. Kermit B. Kalamazoo Mr. Ames passed away Tuesday morning, May 15, 2007 at Tendercare of Westwood. He was born July 18, 1913, in Shelby, MI, the third of eight children to Lowell and Olive Randall Ames. On February 11, 1939, he was united in marriage to Laura Fuller. Mr. Ames retired from Allegan Public Schools in 1979 as a Speech and English teacher. He earned his B.S. in Education from Western Michigan University at the age of 49 and went on to earn his M.S. in Counseling at age 55. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Laura Ames; two children, Connie Dean Blanchard of Buffalo, WY, and Bill Ames of Lansing; five grandchildren, Linda Jack Mohney, Laura Vern Fernandez, Beth Mark Kohler, Katie Ames, and Tom Ames; and seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Samantha, Brianna, Kaleo, Kealoha, Cameron, and John. Preceding him in death are his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, William, Douglas, and Daniel Ames; and three sisters, Marjorie Swingle, Maxine Ames; and Eunice Marie Ames as an infant. Funeral services for Mr. Ames will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. Eric S. Beck officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one?s choice.
