Kenneth A. Lemmer

LEMMER, Kenneth A. Age 84 Of Kalamazoo Ken went peacefully home to be with his Lord on Saturday morning, June 13, 2009. He was born April 24, 1925 in Kalamazoo, one of three children to Marinus and Angie Grofvert Lemmer. Ken was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was employed by Western Michigan University for 22 years until his retirement in 1982. During his retirement Ken and his wife, Jessie VanDyke Lemmer, wintered in Tucson, AZ from 1983-2003. He was a current member of Milwood Christian Reformed Church, and former member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Cadet counselor. Ken enjoyed wood working and making gifts for his family. Surviving are his wife, Jessie Lemmer; 6 children, Robert Lemmer of Kalamazoo, Ruth Steve DeYoung of Kalamazoo, David Debbie Lemmer of Shelbyville, Joel Annie Lemmer of Bloomingdale, Norma Thomas Kloosterman of Kalamazoo, and James Suzy Lemmer of Portage; special daughter-in-law, Helen Lemmer of Kalamazoo; 16 grandchildren, Chad Megan, Kristina, Danielle, Rebecca, Jami, Julie, Joshua, Samantha, Kenny Amber, and Lisa Lemmer, Nicholas Tiffany, and Zachary DeYoung, Amanda Russ DeVries, and Sara, Jeff, and Scott Kloosterman; 3 great-grandchildren, Rozalynn, Morgan, and Remington; sister-in-law, Coby Lemmer; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Dale Lemmer; and sister, Phyllis Charles Jones. Funeral services for Ken will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane, with Rev. Loren Kotman officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Park. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Calvinist Cadet Corps, Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, or a charity of one's choice.
