LA COSS, Kenneth E.
Lawton, Michigan Kenneth E. LaCoss, age 87, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born October 5, 1924, a son of John and Margaret McGary LaCoss in Kalamazoo, MI, and had been a lifelong area resident. During WWII, Ken served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as an airplane and engine mechanic in the US Army Air Corps. Upon his return to Kalamazoo he worked as a union bricklayer for 40 years until his retirement. Ken was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local Union 9 for 56 years. He was a life member of Portage VFW Post 5855 and was also a member of the Portage and Lawton Eagles. On September 7, 1956, Ken was united in marriage with the former Hughine "Sue" Collars, who preceded him in death on March 4, 1999. Ken was also preceded in death by: a son, Kenny Lee LaCoss; a grandson; his parents; three sisters and three brothers. Surviving are: a daughter, Bonnie; a grandson; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dora Horton of Mesick, MI; his special friend Geri Holden of Lawton; several nieces and nephews; and many members of Sue's family. Burial with military honors will take place at 10:30 Friday morning, September 7, 2012, in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery's cortege area by 10:25 AM. Arrangements were made by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
