ALPHENAAR, Kenneth Allen
Of Portage, Michigan Ken went home to be with his Lord, on Wednesday June 25, 2008. He was born September 12, 1934, in Kalamazoo, the son of Adrian and Johanna Kannegieter Alphenaar and has been a lifelong area resident. For over 50 years he was a professional painter for Alphenaar & Mejeur Painting & Decorating. Ken was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church where he had served as deacon and elder; and was currently a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church. He had served on the Kalamazoo Christian School Board and on the Board of Park Village Pines. On September 24, 1954, Ken was united in marriage to the former Joyce Meulman who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Sallie Michael Stripp of Richland, Mary Alphenaar of Portage, Nancy Jeffrey Westendorp of Holland; grandchildren, Michael Westendorp, A.J. Westendorp, Lauren Westendorp, Bethany Stripp, Sarah Stripp and Nathan Stripp; in-laws, Henry Kiel of Portage, Laura Alphenaar of Rochester, NY, Paul Jena Meulman of Gobles; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Alphenaar and a sister, Muriel Kiel. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 30 at the Grace Christian Reformed Church 1724 Whites Road with Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold and Rev. Timothy Bero officiating. A private family interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial in Ken's memory may be directed to Park Village Pines or a charity of your choice. 343-1508; www.langelands.com
