Augusta, MI Passed away Friday, April 8, 2011 at her home. Kathryn was born January 12, 1919 in Ann Arbor, MI, a daughter of Benjamin and Ruby Denison Klager and was a resident of the Kalamazoo area for the past 68 years. After high school, Kathryn graduated from Albion College and Bronson School of Nursing with a B.S.N. in 1942, earning her Masters in Psychology from Western Michigan University in 1969 and her Specialists in Education from WMU, in 1984. She was employed by Bronson School of Nursing, the Borgess School of Nursing and Nazareth School of Nursing, spanning over 47 years as an educator. She was a member of the Lucinda Hinsdale Chapter of the DAR for 70 years, the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the Order of the Eastern Star. She had received DAR State recognition for her volunteer work with the Battle Creek VA Hospital ; and had "A lifetime of service", including the Red Cross, the V.F.W. and Hospice Care. On June 26, 1943, she married J.C. "Red" Van Bruggen, who preceded her in death on May 14, 1999. She was also preceded by her parents, two brothers, Karl Klager and David Klager; and a sister, Martha Jane Walline. Kathryn is survived by her children, Neil Barbara Van Bruggen of Kalamazoo, Jane David Dyer of Richland, Johannes Carolyn Van Bruggen of Clarksville, TN and Anna Douglass Thompson of South Bend, IN; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Courtney Klager of CO and Casey Van Bruggen of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 West Battle Creek St. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Klager Memorial Scholarship at Albion College, Albion, MI 49224.
