McELWAIN, Kathryn Mae
Of Mattawan, MI Kathryn was born February 3, 1936, in Sturgis, Michigan, the daughter of Warren and Elizabeth Mason McKee and went to be with her Lord on October 14, 2011, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was a graduate of Nazareth School of Nursing, was employed for several years in the Surgical Unit at Borgess Hospital and later for 26 years with The Upjohn Company as a registered nurse, where she was the recipient of the W.E. Upjohn Award. Kathryn was a member of the Westwood Church of God and the Kalamazoo Corvette Club. On June 6, 1998, she was united in marriage to Ronald G. McElwain, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a step-daughter, Jeri Jo Marr, a sister-in-law, LaVonna McKee and a brother-in-law, W. Ralph Smith. Surviving are her step-children, Ronald Susan McElwain and Susan Marvin Gritter all of Kalamazoo; a step-son-in-law, Maynard Marr of Mattawan; four step-grandchildren, Kristen John DeGroot, Michelle McElwain-Case, Nicole Steve Balkema and Luke Gritter; seven step-great-grandchildren, Amber, Brayden, Carson, Emma, Corbin, Cora and Ava; a brother, John Jeanette McKee of Akron, IN; a sister, Janet Smith of Port Richie, FL; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16th from 2-5 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Westwood Church of God 811 Gorham Lane with Pastor Tom Tufts officiating. A private family interment will be in Constantine Township Cemetery. Memorials in Kathryn's memory may be directed to Westwood Church of God Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
