Age 92
Of Kalamazoo Kathryn Mazurek, of Kalamazoo, passed away on March 11, 2011. She was born February 16, 1919, in Watervliet, MI, the daughter of Nina Conklin and Arthur Helmer. Kathryn was a 1937 graduate of Watervliet High School. She moved to Kalamazoo and married Frank Mazurek in 1938. Kathryn worked in both Food Services and Housekeeping at Western Michigan University, where she was fondly known as "Ma Maz" by many students. She retired from WMU in 1982. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a brother, Willard Helmer and a sister, Ruth Joy Demink. Surviving are sons, David Mazurek Sharon of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI and Joseph of Richland, MI, along with a sister, Elinor Bill of Greenville, MI as well as three grandchildren, Scott Mazurek of E. Lansing, Chad Mazurek and Kathryn Mazurek both of Richland, MIand several nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14 from 3-8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of choice.
