Katherine M. 'Helen' (Roth) Sweet

SWEET, Mrs. Katherine M. "Helen" (Roth) Kalamazoo, MI Heaven gained a beautiful soul when Helen Sweet passed away Friday morning August 7, 2015. Helen was born December 5, 1927 in Standish, Michigan, the daughter of Loyal and Marie (Huber) Leinaar and lived in Kalamazoo since 1962. Helen was employed with Allied Paper Company for 25+ years. A true woman of faith, she was a member of Lutheran Church of the Savior and previously Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Helen was blessed with two loves in her life, both preceding her in death; her first husband, Eugene (Bill) Roth on April 5, 1986 and her second husband, Ken Sweet on December 23, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Edward and Roy Leinaar; and a sister, Margaret Borushko. She is survived by 2 children, John (Cindy) Roth of Burlington, WI and Charlene (Joe) Gleesing of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren; and many very special nieces and nephews. She loved them all dearly. Wherever Helen went, she shared her quiet faith, strength, kindness, and warm smile and anyone who was in her presence was made to feel special. She was a true example of how we should treat each other and the world would be a much better place if we had more of her in it. She embodied the word "care-giver" and "nurturer" and helped us all strive to be the best we could be. She was one of the most kind-hearted and loving people you would ever meet. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday, August 15th at Lutheran Church of the Savior, 3616 East G. Ave. Friends may meet the family one hour earlier at 11:00 AM to share memories and great stories over cake and coffee at the church. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church of the Savior.
