SCHARPING, Mrs. Katherine E.
of Kalamazoo Katherine died Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born October 29, 1921, in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Klara Major Guylas. Katherine graduated from Central High School in 1939. Katherine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a volunteer with the Zion Lutheran Church Braille Ministries. She was an artist who enjoyed painting oils and watercolors and always used bright and vibrant colors in her works. Her work has been seen on the covers of local magazines and won her many honors. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an unmistakable laugh. She touched the heart of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. On March 21, 1952, Katherine was united in marriage with Joseph P. Scharping who preceded her in death on September 23, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael A. Morrison on March 27, 2008. Katherine is survived by several grandchildren, a sister, Helen Master of California and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 3:00 Wednesday afternoon at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St ., with Pastor Louis Grother officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Private interment will be held in Fort Custer National Cemetery .
