Katherine E. Locey

LOCEY, Katherine E. Katherine passed away Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Center in Kalamazoo. She was born June 19, 1925 in Mancelona, MI, the youngest of eight children to George and Anna Kelbel Velesz. She moved to Kalamazoo in 1944. In 1946, she married Frank Omel. Two children were born from this union. In 1964, she married Donald Locey. Katherine worked as a cashier for Walgreen Pharmacy, a LPN for Borgess Medical Center and a postal clerk for the Miller Rd. United States Postal Service. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are her daughter, Karen Croy of Gobles; four grandchildren, Laurie Juarez, Darcy Welch, Ned Mingus and Ryan Thompson and; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, son, Frank Omel in 1973; three brothers, Rev. Fr. Dunstan Velesz, John Velesz and Frank Velesz; and four sisters, Ann Wayne, Mary Pasch, Margaret Neher and Rose Wilson. Katherine's family will receive visitors from 2-5 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street with Msgr. Michael Hazard celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
