Katherine Dailey, age 91, went to heaven on Saturday morning September 5th, 2020 after battling Alzheimer's. Katie was born on November 9, 1928 in Hazel Park, Michigan, the daughter of Jacob and Dina (Visscher) VanderHorst. They relocated to the Kalamazoo area when Katie was three.
She was a 1946 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. Shortly after, she married Kenneth Hughey, with whom she had her four children. She later met and married Alfred Dailey, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of adventure and celebration of family.
Katie worked at several physicians' offices out of high school and Portage Public Schools later in life. She then joined The Upjohn Company, where she worked for 25 years and was an Upjohn Award recipient, retiring in 1992.
She was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, attending as many sporting events as she could. She and Al enjoyed their travels together to California and Florida, as well as ski trips in Colorado.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alfred Dailey. Surviving are four children, Kenneth Hughey Jr. of Orange, CA, Stephen (Sheri) Hughey of South Haven, MI, Timothy (Kristi) Hughey of Lebanon, MO, and Robyn (Larry) Killips of Portage, MI; two step-children, Thomas (Sandra) Dailey of Columbia, MO and Steven Dailey of Kalamazoo; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; two brothers, Jacob VanderHorst of Palm Springs, CA, and Leo (Bernadette) VanderHorst of Huntington Beach, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
