Went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday evening, April 30, 2023. Kathe was born October 2, 1941, in Heidelberg, Germany, the daughter of Karl J. and Susanna (Scheib) Bock. Kathe was a high school graduate while in Germany and attended Grossmont Junior College (El Cajon, CA) for two years after moving to the United States. After raising her two children, Kathe worked in a few different pharmacies, bringing her work ethic and sense of joy wherever she was. Her favorite pastime was anything having to do with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved attending sporting events and musical concerts involving any of her family, shouting her encouragement which could be clearly heard by those participating! Her family loved seeing her in the stands! One of the things Kathe enjoyed was cooking for her family and others. She was gifted in the kitchen, making all kinds of meals and desserts. Her food was always a favorite at every gathering, with baked beans, potato salad, and fruit salad being among her most requested dishes. On May 28, 1963 Kathe was united in marriage in Heidelberg, Germany, to her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Jerry Swink, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Doug (Shawn) Swink and Susan (Gary) Gunnerson; grandchildren, Madison (Connor) Cheyne, Alexandra Swink, Victoria Swink, Joshua Gunnerson; great-grandchildren Avey, Jaxon, and Cash; sister-in-law, Maria Bock; and several nieces and nephews. Kathe was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Karl L. Bock. A memorial service to celebrate Kathe’s life will be held at 2pm Saturday, May 6, at the Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 South 11th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A time of visiting for family and friends will be from 1pm-2pm prior to the service. Private interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Lighthouse Community Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To view Kathe’s personalized webpage, please visit https://www.langelands.com
