Kalamazoo Passed away Friday, October 26, 2007 in Kalamazoo. He was born August 25, 1926 in Saginaw, MI the son of Charles and Eva Robison DeGroat and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. Junie served his country in the United States Navy during WW II and was employed by the Upjohn Company for 20 years as a Graphic Designer. A founding member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity at Western Michigan University, Junie received a B.S. Degree in Art from WMU in 1954. He was Treasurer of Advance, Inc., a real estate investment group, in the 1960?s and helped establish the Northside Association for Educational Advancement NAEA college scholarship program in 1972. On August 9, 1952, he married the former Jeanne Graine, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Kevin DeGroat of Lansing, Kim Robert Nichols of Durham, NC and Kathy DeGroat-Johnson of Mattawan; and two grandchildren, Dr. William Johnson of Chicago and Brianna Chatman of Mattawan; two sisters-in-law, Mary DeGroat of Saginaw and Frederica DeGroat of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. Junie was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2007 in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo. The family also extends special thanks to Drs.
