STAMOS, Mrs. Julie B.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Mrs. Julie Stamos, age 70, of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away at home on July 24, 2012. She was born on August 16, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas to Edgar and Elizabeth Beattie Peterson, who preceded her in death. She has been a resident of Kalamazoo for her entire adult life. She met and married Pete Stamos while working as a waitress at his restaurant the Char Steak. Julie graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts and she was a special education teacher at Plainwell Community Schools, until she retired in June, 1997. Julie and Pete had four children: Marlene Stamos, Jacque Jeff Stamos-Gray, Steve Tasia Stamos, Effie Jason McCarren, all of Portage. Julie also had five surviving grandchildren: Betsy Eric Stoneburner of Richland, Julie Stamos of New York City, Peter Stamos of Portage, Christos Gurd of Portage, and Peter McCarren, of Portage. Finally, Julie had two great grandchildren, Brenden and Makenna Stoneburner of Richland. She was preceded in death by her grandson Jay Gurd in 1998. Julie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Julie enjoyed spending time with family and hosted family birthdays that were always a highlight for the Stamos clan. She loved teaching children and even in retirement looked for ways to support her grandchildren in their educational journeys. Julie was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was devoted to her faith and served the Greek community in any way she was able. She served as president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer of both her Church Council and Ladies Philoptochos Society. Every June, she spent hours lovingly baking her delicious galaktobouriko to sell at the church's Greek Bake Sale. Customers always arrived early to purchase her scrumptious dessert. Julie inspired and motivated her children and grandchildren, she believed that they could achieve anything they wanted to accomplish and always encouraged them to reach for the stars. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends; May Her Memory Be Eternal. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with the Trisiagon beginning at 7pm. Services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 507 S. Westnedge Avenue, with Fr. Theoharis Theoharis and Fr. John Moutafis, officiating. Interment in Riverside cemetery will follow services. In lieu of flowers, Julie's family requests memorials may be directed to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
