SCHROETER, Mrs. Julie
Of Gull Lake, MI Julie Riedel Schroeter, age 101, died Monday evening, September 1, 2009 at the Lakewood Assisted Living Home. She was born on January 13, 1908 in Hannover, Germany, the daughter of the late William and Wilhelmina Puknat Riedel. She immigrated to the United States in 1923 with her family. In 1931, she married Herbert Schroeter, who was living in Los Angeles, California on a student visa. They returned to Germany in 1935. Her husband died in 1944, after which she returned to Los Angeles, CA in 1950. While in Germany, after WW II, she worked as an interpreter for the British government and also taught English, then held several positions as executive assistant in Los Angeles. Julie has been a resident of the Kalamazoo area since 1989. Surviving are her children; Rudolf Schroeter of Carmel, CA, Barbara and Patrick Lavery of Kalamazoo, MI and Monica and Vernon Johnson of Turlock, CA; six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Julie was preceded in death by two siblings, Carl Rudolf Riedel and Ruth Irma Schaber; and by her daughter-in-law, Hylah Schroeter. Friends may gather with family for a Graveside Service which will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, September 5 at Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery with Rev. Wybren Oord officiating. For those who wish, memorials in Julie's memory may be directed to Covenant United Reformed Church Benevolent Fund envelopes will be available at chapel or graveside.
