Julie (Doggett) Northrop of Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully at Kairos Dwelling on October 11, 2024. She was born to Viola and Julian R. Doggett on September 6, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She soon moved to Portage and attended Portage Schools. Julie then attended Western Michigan University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education and Special Education. She started teaching in Kalamazoo Public Schools and soon after married Philip Teitelbaum and birthed two sons, Daniel and Kenneth Teitelbaum. She later divorced and re-married Michael Northrop. They resided in Portage. Julie was a dedicated member of the Congregation of Moses and served as president of their sisterhood for an undetermined number of years. Julie also won the best teacher’s award in 1999 and an outstanding services plaque from the Red Cross for her assistance in helping out the community after the 1980 tornado. Finally, we cannot go without mentioning that she was awarded the A.B.W.A woman of the year award in 1994. Julie is survived by her husband Michael Northrop; her two sons Daniel and Kenneth and a large amount of family. She was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Viola Doggett and a younger sister Donna (Doggett) Taylor. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18th, at 11:00 AM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Location, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, with Rabbi Shelley Goldman presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the services.
