Julia Marie Lait

Julia Marie (Lizak) Lait of Portage, Michigan, died on December 24, 2023, at the age of 89. “Marie”, as she preferred to be called, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 7, 1934, to the late Benjamin and Barbara (Toth) Lizak. In 1952, Marie married James Lait in Chicago, Illinois. The two spent over 62 years together.

Marie had the privilege of spending her adult life as a homemaker. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband and children. She enjoyed attending her children’s activities and cooking Hungarian specialties. Marie also dedicated some of her free time as a volunteer for the Christ Community Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Marie is survived by her children, James (Nancy Stewart) Lait of Kalamazoo, and Judith Sachs of Chicago; grandchildren, Amanda and Benjamin Sachs of Chicago; and great-grandchild, Addison Maysonet of Chicago.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; four siblings, Benjamin, Frank, Barbara, and Margaret; son-in-law, Kalman Sachs; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Murphy Lait.

Cremation has taken place. Marie will be interred alongside her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
