BETTEN, Judith M.
Of Kalamazoo Judith M. Betten died unexpectedly Friday, March 9, 2012 at her family cabin in Marion, MI. She was born in Elkton, MI, September 4, 1938. Judy grew up in Battle Creek, MI and graduated from Lakeview High School. She was a graduate of Bronson School of Nursing as well as Western Michigan University. She retired from Borgess Medical Center after 27 years as a surgical nurse. Judy enjoyed many hobbies including photography, bird watching, and deer hunting. She was an expert on medieval history, as well as quilting, knitting, counted cross stitching, crocheting, artistic card making and gardening. She also enjoyed teaching her grand-daughters these same skills. Judy traveled extensively in the United States as well as foreign countries. Furthermore, she and her husband enjoyed multiple cruises. Judy was also a volunteer at Friends of the Library. Judy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Dr. Kenneth Betten; her children, Ann Todd Wortinger, Fred Janet Aebli, Joe Mary Betten, Kristen Eriks Mezsets, and George Lisa Betten. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and her sister Jean John Podbregar, as well as her very dear friend, Aunt Shirley Hamm. A service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at 11:00am Thursday at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton, Kalamazoo, with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the service. Friends may meet the family Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street and also at the church, Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery Friday at 10:00am meet in assembly area at 9:50.
